Our team in India is in the final stages of one of their most ambitious projects to date—the construction of a new ministry building in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. What began as a moment of uncertainty has become a powerful expression of faith, provision, and long-term vision.

From Uncertainty to Opportunity

In 2016, after more than 65 years of ministry in the same rented building, the team at Evangelical Literature Service (ELS) Purasawalkam was asked to vacate the premises. It was a significant disruption, but also a defining moment.

In the midst of that uncertainty, the Lord stirred a new vision in the heart of National Director Justin Chellappan: what if we built a permanent home for the ministry?

By God’s provision, a vacant plot—originally gifted by the founder of ELS—was identified as the ideal location. In 2023, construction began in faith, even without full funding in place.

Today, that vision is close to becoming a reality.

A Strategic Hub for the Gospel

This four-storey building will serve as a central hub for Christian outreach in Chennai and beyond, in a nation where 74.3% of the population practices Hinduism.

The facility has been designed to support both evangelism and discipleship, and will include:

• A large 222 m² Christian bookstore and showroom
• Conference rooms for training, teaching, and ministry gatherings
• Guest accommodation for visiting pastors, missionaries, and partners
• Ground-floor parking and essential infrastructure

This space will enable the team to expand their reach, strengthen the local church, and create a welcoming environment where people can encounter the message of Jesus Christ.

Strengthening the Mission for the Future

Alongside its ministry impact, the building will also bring practical sustainability. Moving from rented premises into a permanent facility will significantly reduce ongoing costs, freeing up resources to further the work of ELS across India.

This is not just about a building. It is about establishing a long-term foundation for ministry—one that will serve generations to come.

While the project is nearing completion, there is still work to be done. Construction of this scale brings both challenges and unexpected costs, and the final stage requires continued faith and partnership.
