Faith, Partnership, and Ongoing Mission
Spreading the Word. Reaching the World.
It has now been more than three years since we began partnering with CLC Africa Director Liz Patten and working alongside the national CLC team in Sierra Leone. In that time, we have seen God’s faithfulness in remarkable ways, as well as the resilience of a team committed to making His Word available in challenging circumstances.
Increasing Access to God’s Word
Over this period, many shipments of new and second-hand books and Bibles have arrived at the port of Freetown. These have come through the generosity of partners across the world, including American publishers, a church in Canada, and Kingsway/CLC Trust in the UK, with CLC USA playing a key role in consolidating and coordinating deliveries.
These resources have significantly expanded the reach of the ministry. Today, the majority of these books and Bibles are in the hands of spiritually hungry Christians, as well as those searching for answers and meaning. In a context where access to Christian literature is limited, each shipment represents real opportunity for lives to be shaped by God’s Word.
Supporting Pastors and Leaders
We are also grateful for our partnership with Crossway Publishers in the USA. Through their generosity, we have been able to distribute carefully selected book sets to pastors across different provinces—particularly those serving in more remote areas, far from one of the country’s three CLC bookshops.
For many of these leaders, access to theological resources is extremely limited. These materials are not simply helpful—they are vital in equipping pastors to teach faithfully, disciple effectively, and serve their communities with confidence.
Faithfulness in the Face of Challenge
Alongside these encouraging developments, the reality of ministry in Sierra Leone remains challenging. There have been instances of vandalism and theft at our bookshops, requiring the employment of night security. Periods of political unrest have led to the capital shutting down for days at a time. Power outages are frequent, and daily life can be unpredictable.
And yet, through it all, we continue to give thanks for the faithfulness of the national team. Their commitment to making Bibles and Christian resources available—despite these pressures—is both humbling and inspiring.
Reaching Communities Beyond the Bookshop
The ministry extends beyond physical bookshops. In Bo Town and the surrounding areas, outreach is now taking place through the use of a recently purchased Kéké, a motorised tricycle. This initiative, made possible through generous support from the UK, Canada, and the USA, allows the team to take resources directly into communities, meeting people where they are.
This approach reflects a simple but powerful principle: if people cannot come to the bookshop, we will take the bookshop to them.
Investing in Long-Term Presence
Looking ahead, one of the key priorities is the construction of a new bookshop in Bo Town. This project reflects a long-term commitment to establishing a sustainable and visible CLC presence in the region.
The bookshop and outreach in Bo are led by Matthew and Isata Ndoinjeh, whose leadership and dedication continue to drive the work forward. Moving into a permanent space will not only reduce the burden of rising rental costs, but will also provide more room for ministry. Located in the centre of town, within a church complex that hosts regular gatherings and conventions, the new bookshop will be well positioned to serve both the local church and the wider community.
A Shared Mission
None of this work happens in isolation. It is made possible through the generosity, time, and prayer of supporters around the world. Whether through financial giving, the provision of books and Bibles, or faithful prayer, every contribution plays a part in making this ministry possible.
We are deeply grateful to all who have partnered with us so far, and we invite you to continue standing with the team in Sierra Leone.
Please continue to pray, give, and support in whatever way you can, so that this ministry may continue to grow and bear fruit. Together, we are helping place God’s Word into the hands of those who need it—and seeing lives transformed as a result.
